Point Blank

Alex Rider begins his second adventure in Point Blank, a book by Anthony Horowitz that has 274 pages. Alex is recruited once again by MI6, to investigate an all boys boarding school, Point Blanc, after two mysterious deaths. The school only caters to rich boys, which suits the needs of the school's director, Hugo Grief, very well. He "needs" to rule the world with fourteen-year-old clones of himself. Dr. Grief surgically altered his clones, and used them to replace the real fourteen-year-old boys so they could collect the fortunes the parents would one day leave behind. After getting captured by Grief, Alex learned about this plan right before he escaped, went snowboarding down a mountain, and died. This book is amazing and everyone should read it.

The main conflict in this book is character vs self. Elie is at war with himself. First, his belief in God is shattered, but part of him wants to believe. Then when his father died he felt relief, then only guilt. Lastly, he had surgery on his foot but wanted to leave the camp so he wouldn't be killed in the hospital. This book has action, adventure, and drama galore (like a soap opera, but better). But when Amy and Dan find out what they've gotten themselves into, it leads them to many life or death situations. Find out which comes out on top and read this book.

Boy of the Painted Cave

The novel Boy of the Painted Cave by Justin Denzel has 158 pages of non-stop law breaking action and adventure. Tao, the main character, has the dream of becoming a Cave Painter, or Chosen One. It is nearly impossible since he was not born the so of a leader or shaman. But, he was "blessed" with a bad foot. For Tao to become a Cave Painter is proven possible when he meets Graybeard, the old shaman for all the clans. Graybeard showed Tao how to become a better artist and then to chose him to the new Cave Painter before he died. When Tao is then believed to have killed the shaman he is forced to face "Saxon", the sacred bull. After he proves that his word is true by defeating "Saxon," Tao becomes the new Cave Painter.

The Secret Cavern is a very important setting to the plot of the book. Without it there would be no stable plot. The Secret Cavern is where Tao had the dream of painting. That he can't paint there is the main problem in the story. Tao beat "Saxon" and then became a Chosen One after he went into the Secret Cavern. So without the Secret Cavern there would be no real plot in the story.

To Kill A Mockingbird

To Kill a Mocking Bird, a novel by Harper Lee, holds 284 pages which contain the memories of Jean Louise Finch. Known by the name Scout in her childhood, she and her family face the evilest creature in all of town, racism. When Scout’s father, a lawyer named Atticus, defends a black man named Tom Robinson, she and her brother, Jem, are teased openly. Later, after Tom is killed by a prison guard, Jem and Scout were attacked by the man who had framed Tom and sent him to jail. Honor was a main theme in this book since Atticus was determined to help Tom though it angered most of the town.

Atticus showed honor, a main theme in the book, when helping the black man though it angered most of the town. Jem showed honor when Atticus was at the jail protecting Tom and he chose to stay. At first, Scout was honorable to her father’s request to not fight with boys anymore. Jem showed honor when he and Scout were attacked and he just wanted to get them home safely. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys great literature and wants to know what life was like back in the Great Depression.
